True Detective season 2 was an epic failure and disaster. Finale aired tonight. So much excitement leading up for this season and other than episode 6, it was pretty awful IMO. Did like the music though. All hail season 1.

Yeah, season two was pretty bad. I love the idea of this show so I hope there is a season 3 and that it's better than this season.

I thought on the whole season 2 of True Detective was the better season. Both seasons had maddening weak points, and season 1 did have McConnaughey, but this season had so much more depth and character development outside of any acting tour de force. There were actual relationships that seemed to mean something for particular reasons, rather than a single unexpained bond between two fuckups, as much fun as that was to some degree.

Ray Donovan season 3 is kicking ass. Favorite summer show by far.

I just thought the whole plot was just a clusterfuck and was complex as hell, that's all. Especially for just 8 episodes. There were definitely decent personal relationships and connections, but I just felt nothing really drew you in to the show like that first season...

I thought season one was just as much of a mess. It's true that it did draw me in more by the end, but it didn't feel like anything whole was there. The show at the end felt pretty different from the show at the start, while both great, and the middle was just garbage mostly. I felt there was something substantial in this one that remained throughout. But ultimately with both there was just so much telling and not enough showing, which is the first thing you learn to avoid for a strong narrative In any creative writing course. Season one had a lot better direction. That sort of glossed over the problem of a sloppy narrative to a degree. I guess i really wish the best of both seasons could be combined, and all the truly terrible yuckiness disposed of. if they could make both seasons run for 5 episodes and not end up making me feel like they fixed a lot but at the same time wrecked other aspects that had been good, then they'd really have something.

I didn't realize the third season started. I'll have to check it out tonight.

Fear was a big meh for both Sue and I
I'll give it a few episodes before i decide to continue watching or not

On the other hand...the Strain was excellent last night
Finally got some back history on what just might be the coolest/most badass character on tv right now....Mr Quinlan (Quintus Sertorius)
