Minnesota has fired President and Coach Tom Thibodeau, league source tells ESPN.

@wojespn
Fred Hoiberg is a serious consideration of Minnesota owner Glen Taylor to become either the GM or head coach in the future, league sources tell ESPN. Hoiberg was an assistant GM in Minnesota prior to Iowa State. Scott Layden remains GM now.

Another coach held in high-regard in the Minnesota search that ultimately landed Thibodeau: 76ers assistant Monty Williams. Following a family tragedy at the time, Williams was not ready to return to head coaching.

It's been a long time coming. Odd timing, but everyone knew it'd happen by the end of the season. Teams need to stop giving both titles to one individual. It's too much responsibility and creates a major conflict of interest.

Minnesota now needs to find a way to dump Wiggins and properly build around KAT. I like some of the pieces they've developed and signed with Jones, Covington, Saric, and Okogie, as well as DRose who is having the biggest surprise year in a long time. They need to get younger and stop playing their core guys so many minutes. Bottom out and try to get one of the Duke boys.

Probably should have happened last off-season, but Taylor is known to be a patient guy. I also agree that the timing is a bit odd, but then again if Minnesota wants to go in a different direction they need a new person to execute the plan.

I doubt they can unload Wiggins. While he's played better recently, I cannot see a team willing to take on his huge contract. As such, Minnesota is probably hoping the new coach can help Wiggins further develop his game.
