An interesting observation about Pascal from a Celtic fan on Realgm though it's not that simple....

Quote:
He's ridiculously predictable. We joke about it every game and every time he touches the ball. If I know exactly what he's about to do so does everyone on the Cs. In the post, he dribbles twice, turns, dribbles twice the other way, turns, pumps and goes up with a shot... every single time. He has like one move set that he uses over and over again.

That's not off the mark, unfortunately. His arsenal is not vast - especially if the 3s are not dropping.

He has been the go to guy and it's been too much for him - no Kawhi to share the responsibility.

One thing I did not like seeing is the lazy defence especially. I lost count how many times the player with the ball blew by him for a layup or Siakim was at the rim and didn't even put a half hearted arm up...wtf? You would get pulled out of a highschool game playing defence like that. This is the NBA playoffs.

As much as we love our guys here in Toronto, if we go out in flames next game and Siakim shows more of this, Masai will have a lot to think about.

We don't know how much better he's going to get in the coming years. The fact is, he's going to be 27 before next season  ends. I realize he hasn't played basketball that long so that's why some people are expecting him to continue making giant leaps but it's not like he's OG's age. I think he can improve his 3pt consistency and hopefully get a midrange game but I'm not so sure he's not currently close to his ceiling.

there are only two reasons that stop a player from improving, not willing to work and physical limitations. None applies to siakam, so I expect him to improve every year for the next 3-4 years. Shooting, post game, handling, jump shot - there are a lot of low hanging fruits for pascal to pick each summer. That's not to say that he's bound to be an elite first weapon offensively one day, he may or may not become that (my guess is no), but he'll be a lot better in 3 years, that much I'm sure.

I don't think OG will be that guy either, they'll both probably top out as elite 2nd options, kind of like where tatum is today. One way or another, we'll need to add a 3rd guy, ideally a kawhi-level creator, but even a next tier player, especially at guard, would make us a top 4-5 team in the league. Especially if that guard is a two-way player with elite shooting ability.

I agree with this, especially OG. Get a superstar here, hopefully keeping both and they are great 2nd/3rd options ......or 2a/b players. Lol

yeah, I mean obviously getting a kawhi talent would be ideal, as that kind of player covers a lot of shortcomings. But we've shown this year that the alternative, with 2a/2b/2c is not too bad of a failover option. Obviously, our options were exposed as more of 2/3a/3b (kyle/fred/pascal), but both OG and siakam can make the jump, siakam is almost there, OG not as far behind as it might seem. There are hidden depths to OG that were only glimpsed at this season, so I wouldn't be surprised that when he makes the jump, it will appear massive and out of the blue to the nba at large.

I look at all the teams still in play - heck arguably including those that got knocked out first round with the exceptions of ORL, and probably MIA, these teams have multiple game-altering players. There are glimpses of this on the Raps but all knew coming in to this season it is live-or-die by supreme team ball. There isn't a team sport out there where a game can be influenced by 1 person as much as basketball IMO. Are we the feisty multiple championship-winning Pistons 2.0? Will our guys make enough of a LEAP to overcome the likes of KD+Irving+massive support cast, Tatum+Brown+Walker+support, Butler and that group?

I doubt Masai leaves that up to chance...
