6'10" Henry Ellison G-League stats through 3 games after the trade from the Nets: 27.3ppg, FG%54, 3FG%52 on 4.7makes, FT%77 RPG9.7 ASPG2.7 and 1BLKPG

I see him getting some burn soon with Gasol out.

Dirk numbers there...

Jordan Loyd dominated the G-League, too.

Ellenson's issues are: he's slow, he's not overly strong to handle NBA PFs, and he's a bad defensive player. With Gasol out, Boucher will get more burn.

yeah, the little I've seen him play with detroit, he seemed very slow for a PF and not strong/defensive minded enough for a center.

then again, he was drafted just ahead of poeltl if I recall, so perhaps he was just out of shape and playing for his career may have motivated him to improve his conditioning. After all, there must have been a reason we signed him to the gleague team, we wouldn't have wasted time if we felt he has no shot.

But I'd be shocked if he gets time, unless gasol misses a lot of games. It takes time to learn the plays and all that.

I gotta disagree he doesn't look slow... and he has a really nice stroke to his 3 point shot and he looks like
he is a decent passer as well with some ball skills:

Poeltl was 9th and Ellenson was 18th.  I don't know if Ellenson will make it, this is his 4th organization since being drafted by the Pistons in 2016 - Pistons, Knicks, Nets, now the 905's.  Ellenson is on the slower side and is a bit weak.  To be fair, he just turned 23 a of couple weeks ago and I'm wondering if his game simply doesn't translate to the NBA or he's just going to need more time to develop.  If it's developing then the Raptors are the place to be 🙂

Ellenson cannot guard NBA stretch 4s, many of whom are now oversized 3s. He’s also not strong enough to guard 5s and lacks the hops to compensate for his lack of strength a la Boucher. His defensive instincts are pretty poor, too.

Sure he looks good in G-League, but it’s the G-League (and your judgment is based on offensive highlights). Maybe in time he can be a stretch-4 or -5 like Bertans, but like the Washington forward he has glaring weaknesses. If he isn’t making his shots, he’s a huge liability on the court.

you're right, but he was ranked very high pre-draft, I remember there were some who wanted ellenson and were disappointed with the poeltl pick (nobody asked for siakam ... ðŸ˜ˆ). Did a bit of googling, these guys had him #6 pre-draft:

got to love hindsight, bender was ranked #3, siakam #46 🙂

Many here wanted us to move up to get Bender.

I was dealing heavy opposition and critique for saying he is a bust.

I also remember a lot of people were pissed we didn't take maker ahead of poeltl and then labissiere ahead of pascal ...

of course, these days, few would dare to question masai's choices 🙂

Speaking of poeltl, he's having a monster season - too bad we can't bring him back. He's probably one of the top 10 defensive centers in the league now, and he's still so young.

We can bring him back this summer if Masai offers him a deal and Spurs don't match it. Him and Pascal are still friends and I'd love to have him back.

I like Poeltl power, but to be honest, I'd love Turner more - he'd be a great fit.
