They are going to need to fill the roster spot. If nothing else they add one of the two-way players. Otherwise they take on a buyout. Or they trade one guy for two. Thems the options. They could have done the same with Malachi in tow, but that would have only added that much more to the tax bill. Now the cost won’t naw at them as much.

Help me with something.

Since we got some cash, is this some kind of special cash?  Like it can be used for a player or something restrictive? Its related to the cap?

Or is it just a bucket of bills that MLSE can spend on hookers and blow for the execs?

Serious question actually.

You can use cash for anything but they are already in lux tax territory so it doesn't create cap room or anything like that.  Its just cash.

It is just extra cash, no special use, they'll probably use to cover part of that 29M$ luxury tax bill. Already got 5.2M$ from the Kawhi trade plus this today. I have no idea how much but my guess would be 1M$. So, Raptors saved 5M$ with the trade, maybe got 1M$ and the tax bill became 29M$ instead of 34M$.

imo, this is partly to save money, and partly to open up a spot if the right players can be had from the waivers. There was no need to empty a spot for a trade, since malachi could have been part of that trade. But mostly to save money.

Derek Bodner: The #sixers will waive Malachi Richardson to make room for James Ennis, per sources. The Sixers acquired Richardson, Toronto’s 2022 2nd round pick and the rights to Emir Preldzic yesterday in exchange for cash considerations. – via Twitter DerekBodnerNB
